The Mad Cow 2009 Race Updates

This page contains a summary of the three race updates that have previously been e-mailed to all of the registered racers. Everything you need to know prior to arriving is on this page

WAIVERS:

If possible, please print the race waiver (HERE) and bring it with you to the race check-in. If you will be under 18 years old on race day, please also print the minor's assumption of risk document (HERE).

RACE DAY SCHEDULE:

Check-in: 6:30 AM - 7:15 AM (you will receive your race maps when you check in)
Pre-Race Briefing: 7:15 AM - 7:30 AM
Race START: 8:00 AM
Race END: 2:00 PM
Food, results, etc: 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

DIRECTIONS:

Many exits are closed on SR 315 due to construction. From any direction you may be traveling, the best approach will be to take Interstate 70 (East or West) to SR 315 NORTH. Once you get on SR 315, take the "Dublin Rd / Spring St Exit and stay to your left. At the exit ramp light, take a LEFT and stay in the left lane. Pass under the bridge and take a LEFT onto Souder Avenue. On Souder, take that 1st LEFT where you see signs for Confluence Park. Follow the drive around the curve up into the restaurant parking lot. We will be set-up in the north end of the lot.

A map showing the location of the parking lot is HERE.

MANDATORY GEAR:

Be sure to review the mandatory gear list (HERE). There will be one or more random gear checks at some point while you are out on the course. Any team found to be in violation will serve a time penalty at that CP!

SHIRTS:

Race T-shirts will now be FREE to all registered racers. At the end of the event, there should still be a limited number available to purchase for $10 each.

SPECIAL GUEST:

Brad Hunt (CBS - Amazing Race 14) will be joining us on race day! Expect to see this Columbus native somewhere out on the course manning one of the checkpoints. If you're a fan of "TAR14", he will be available after the race to chat and share stories. If you'd like to see a clip of Brad and his wife Victoria on cbs.com, check out the link HERE.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Hydration - IMPORTANT -- do not skimp on hydration for this event - especially since the forecast currently projects a high of almost 90 degrees on race day. Please play it safe and be sure to carry plenty of fluids with you - not just the minimum!
Maps and Clue Sheets -- Be sure to protect your maps and clue sheets. Wet and/or sweaty maps get ruined quickly! We suggest contact paper, sealed map cases or large Ziploc bags.
Paddling section -- For the paddling leg of the race, you (or at least someone on your team) will get wet!
Restrooms -- Confluence Park has agreed to open their doors at 7:30 AM - right after the briefing. Please be courteous and either stop somewhere before you arrive, or "hold it" until 7:30!
Chairs -- There are no benches or picnic tables in the start/finish area. We recommend bringing some camping/folding chairs to sit on.
Rain -- This is a rain or shine event. Plan and dress accordingly!
